The department teaches the following disciplines:
- Human Anatomy;
- Biological and Bioorganic Chemistry;
- Histology, Cytology, and Embryology;
- Medical Jurisprudence;
- Microbiology, Virology and Immunology;
- Pat Morphology;
- Pathophysiology;
- Sectional course;
- Forensic Medicine;
- Pharmacology;
- Physiology.
Domestic and foreign students study at the department, including students with Ukrainian-speaking, English-speaking, and Russian-speaking forms of education.
The main directions of the department’s work are as follows:
- educational activities aimed at the implementation of higher professional education programs and the training of highly qualified competitive specialists;
- scientific activity, which covers the organization and conduct of scientific research in accordance with the profile of the department within the framework of international, domestic, or university research programs;
- innovative activity includes the performance of works and improved educational technologies, scientific achievements in the field of health care;
- the main directions of scientific research of the department corresponding to the priority directions of the development of science, environmental protection, ecology, health care, and education in Ukraine;
- teachers of the department of fundamental disciplines with a pharmacology course participate in international and all-Ukrainian scientific and practical conferences, symposia, seminars, etc.
The main areas of methodical work:
- organization of open classes and mutual visits to classes, methodical seminar work, and other methodical activities;
- organization and management of the process of development and formation of educational and methodical materials from the disciplines assigned to the department;
- development of test tasks from the disciplines assigned to the department is carried out.
Graduates of the Department of Fundamental Medicine have a high educational level, which gives future doctors significant competitiveness both in Ukraine and abroad, provides the possibility of their employment, and creates a thorough basis for building a brilliant career in the health care system.
The teaching staff of the department includes doctors of science, professors, candidates of science, associate professors, and assistants, who have extensive scientific and pedagogical experience in both medical and educational institutions.
To ensure the educational process, a modern material and technical base was created on the basis of the department, which meets the requirements of training specialists at a high professional level. The teachers of the department developed and updated lecture texts, detailed plans for laboratory and practical classes, and prepared sets of test tasks for the current and final control of students’ knowledge. A database (lectures, laboratory, tests, tasks for individual work, questions for self-control, literature, etc.) was created for each discipline. Work on the implementation of modern learning technologies is constantly being carried out. It is practiced to conduct seminars and practical classes on the basis of our Academy.
Lectures are conducted using modern multimedia and computer technology and a sufficient number of visual materials. Practical classes in medical biology, microbiology, virology and immunology, histology, cytology, and embryology are conducted with the use of modern demonstration tools, cytomorphological preparations, and the use of microscopes. Classes on human anatomy and physiology are conducted using artificial models of organs, the human skeleton, educational films, training manuals, and workbooks, which allows to optimize the learning of the material by students and enables them to get a visual experience starting from the basic stages of learning.

Within the framework of the international INCLUDE ME+ project, the online course “Digital Media for Inclusive Peacebuilding” has been introduced, offering new opportunities for developing digital competences, intercultural dialogue, and inclusive education. The course is designed to promote a modern approach to using digital media as a tool for social change, participation, and peacebuilding.
