ANATOLY HOZHENKO

Anatoly Ivanovich Gozhenko was born on February 13, 1948, in the city of Starobilsk, Luhansk region.
Doctor of Medical Sciences, professor, Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine, director of the “Ukrainian Research Institute of Transport Medicine” of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, president of the Scientific Union of Pathophysiologists of Ukraine, founding president of the Association of Medical Science of Ukraine.
Great scientific experience of O. I. Hozhenka. allowed him at the III National Congress of Pathophysiologists of Ukraine (Odesa, 2000) to propose a new section of pathological physiology – clinical pathophysiology, for the first time in Ukraine.
Author of more than 1,600 scientific works, including 54 monographs, and 8 textbooks.
Scientific Activity
In 1976, he defended his candidate’s thesis: “Some Features of Kidney Activity and Energy Metabolism in the Dynamics of Experimental Nephritis” 14.00.16 – “Pathological Physiology” – Chernivtsi. In 1987 – his doctoral thesis: “Energy Supply of the Main Renal Functions and Processes in Normal and in case of Kidney Damage” 14.00.16 – “Pathological Physiology” – Kyiv.
A.I. Gozhenko made a significant contribution to the study of the mechanisms of formation of acute renal failure, renal genesis, the role of prostaglandins, the renin-angiotensin system, and nitric oxide in their development.
Anatoly Ivanovych proposed a modern theory of the disease. He is the author of a number of diagnostic methods, in particular a fundamentally new method of determining the functional renal reserve.
For the first time deciphered the mechanisms of reduction of glomerular filtration in the acute period of kidney damage. Determined the primary nature of damage to proximal tubules in the genesis of reduced glomerular filtration and the formation of acute renal failure. He was one of the first to study non-immunological mechanisms of kidney disease progression.
Under his leadership, a number of studies on the pathophysiology of diabetes, oncological diseases, and cardiovascular pathology were performed.
Professor Gozhenko Anatoly Ivanovych is the founder of the international scientific school “Clinical and Experimental Pathophysiology”, which has more than 150 students and followers. Many of his students lead scientific teams in Ukraine, Poland, the USA, and Canada.
Anatoly Ivanovych is the author of:
- “Theory of disease”. Monograph/Odesa: Phoenix, 2018.
- “Functional renal reserve, physiology, pathophysiology, and diagnostics”. Monograph/Kyiv, 2019.
- “Functional-metabolic continuum: physiology and pathology”. Monograph/Poltava, 2020.
- “Energy supply of the main renal functions and processes in normal and damaged kidneys” (1987).
- “Kidney pathophysiology” [in co-authorship] – Study Guide/Odesa: Phoenix, 2020.
- and others.
Anatoly Ivanovich Gozhenko is the author of 80 inventions.
Published 107 articles cited in the “Scopus” and “Web of Science” databases. The Hirsch index is 24.
Under the leadership of Professor A.I. Gozhenka, 33 doctors and 76 candidates of medical sciences prepared and defended their degrees.
