Department of Social Medicine and Humanitarian Disciplines
The Department of Social and Humanitarian Disciplines was created in accordance with the decision of the Academic Council of the International Academy of Ecology and Medicine; The department is a structural educational and scientific-methodical division of the Academy.

At the current stage of building an independent, democratic, legal Ukrainian state, the urgent task of the Ukrainian community is the problem of revising and rethinking worldview orientations; significant losses of spiritual values in society require improvement of ways and methods of formation of qualitatively new thinking and a high level of national self-awareness among student youth.
Therefore, the urgent task for higher education is the formation of a powerful elite of the nation, patriotic, highly moral, and creatively active, which will show its public position, and strive for self-realization. In this regard, the role of socio-humanitarian knowledge as an important factor in the process of forming a highly qualified and highly moral specialist, a harmonious, integral, nationally conscious, patriotically oriented, socially active individual is growing.
The formation of a specialist today, in the conditions of a hybrid war, is not just the transfer of knowledge, practical skills, and abilities, but above all the education of the mind, the formation of a worldview, beliefs, moral values , and principles, aesthetic tastes and preferences. Science has proven that education and upbringing are an inseparable and deeply national process in essence, content, and character. Therefore, the organization of the educational process at the Department of Social and Humanitarian Disciplines aims at the formation and development of such a personality, which will be characterized by the readiness to fulfill, in addition to professional, civil, and constitutional duties for the protection of national-state interests, independence and integrity of Ukraine, its approval sovereignty
The Department of Social and Humanitarian Disciplines has been operating at the International Academy of Ecology and Medicine from the time of its establishment. The establishment of the department was facilitated by the scientific and teaching activities of Professor, Doctor of Sciences M. Yu., Professor, Doctor of Sciences M. M. Stadnyk, Professor, Doctor of Sciences N.E. Kostynska, Professor, Doctor of Sciences V. M. Yakymets, Professor, Doctor of Sciences Nauk Yarosh N. P. Currently, the Department of Social and Humanitarian Disciplines is a united and creative team of like-minded people who provide teaching of the disciplines of the socio-humanitarian cycle to students of Ukrainian-speaking and English-speaking forms of education.
The leading scientific topic of the department’s work corresponds to the direction of the Academy’s scientific activity – “Environmental medicine, hygiene and medicine of the environment: state and prospects of development”. In the context of this scientific issue, the activity of the student scientific society is organized, which is coordinated by Associate Professor Bortnikova O. G., Candidate of Philosophical Sciences, Master of Psychology, whose professional and scientific interests focus on the problem of the impact of combat mental trauma on the psychological state of military personnel.
The Department of Social and Humanitarian Discipline closely cooperates with the student council, organizing the activities of the information center, educational excursions, and sports competitions.
The goal of the educational work of the Department of Social and Humanitarian Disciplines is the implementation of the State National Program “Education (Ukraine of the 21st century)”, which provides for “the establishment of a person as the highest social value, the fullest disclosure of his abilities and the assimilation of various educational needs, ensuring the priority of universal values, harmony relations between man and the environment, society, and nature”.
Worldview foundations of the educational process:
- sociocultural context of innovative activity;
- developing cultural dominance;
- departure from traditional paradigms of thinking in the conditions of media technologies, globalization, informatization, and multiculturalization;
- combination of humanistic and medical components of education, theoretical and practical components, classical heritage, and modern achievements of scientific thought;
- organic connection with national history, culture, national tradition;
- freedom of choice of values, realization of opportunities for self-development;
- humanization of interpersonal relations;
- future orientation;
- corporate culture.
Given the set goal, the following tasks of educational work are defined:
- ensuring the priority of human development, reproduction, and transportation of culture and spirituality in all the variety of national and world models;
- formation of worldview, legal, moral, political, economic, and ecological culture;
- multiplication of intellectual and spiritual potential;
- comprehensive development of the personality, oriented to humanistic values and guidelines of professional medical ethics and deontology;
- formation of students’ innovative thinking, abilities for creative self-realization, and development of their physical and moral health;
- creation of conditions for high-quality training of competitive specialists in accordance with the achievements of domestic and world science, standards of higher education;
- comprehensive preparation for life in the globalized information space;
- provision of key competencies necessary for independent living, performance of professional and social functions;
- formation of flexibility, mobility, competitiveness, the ability to integrate into a dynamic society, to present oneself on the labor market;
- training in purposeful use of one’s potential in the cognitive sphere, for self-realization in a professional and personal plan and in the interests of society;
- formation of worldview, beliefs, and values that ensure the realization of “life projects” of students;
- formation of language competence and communicative culture of future doctors;
- building the educational process on the basis of practical activities.
Areas of methodical work:
- development of training and work programs in the disciplines that the department provides;
- development of criteria for the student rating assessment system (RSS) and technologies for the organization of independent work (SRS) in accordance with the Regulation on the rating system;
- preparation of lecture notes, methodical materials for seminars, practical classes, and independent work of students;
- introduction of new forms, methods, and innovative multimedia technologies into the educational process, development of appropriate methodological support;
- conducting scientific and methodical seminars for teachers;
- preparation of educational and methodical documentation, and didactic materials;
- study and implementation of best practices in the organization of the educational process.
Directions of scientific work:
- preparation and publication of scientific articles in professional publications;
- speeches at scientific conferences, publication of abstracts of reports;
- work on dissertations, and preparation for defense;
- organization and holding of scientific and practical conferences;
- organization and conducting of scientific seminars;
- management of students’ scientific work, the results of which are reflected at scientific and practical conferences;
- integration of scientific work with the educational process.
The methodological basis of the organization of the department’s work is a technological approach – the introduction of interactive educational technologies into the educational process using computer technology; activity-based, person-oriented, informational-psychological, synergistic approaches to the organization of the educational process in a higher education institution.
